Silent Spring: A Tribute to Rachel Carson

Select Sundays, 12:30-1:30pm

Join Audubon for a four-part series in which we tie Rachel Carson's book, Silent Spring, to a series of documentaries that explore the impact of her work and legacy.

March 26th 2017:  “The Silent Spring of Rachel Carson”, CBS 1963.  This documentary explores the impact Carson’s work had in the 1960s. After the documentary, there will be a discussion about the parallels between the environmental movements of the 1960’s and contemporary environmental issues.

April 2nd 2017: The University of California's “Silent Spring Series” explores Rachel Carson’s work and how we can use the knowledge of Silent Spring to combat climate change and emerging infectious diseases.

April 23rd 2017: ”Dying to be Heard” is a documentary about Michigan State University Professor George J. Wallace and his study on pesticides and bio-accumulation. After the documentary we will explore the impact Wallace has had on the environmental movement as we celebrate Earth Day.

April 30th 2017: TED Talks. View a series of three TED talks that explore the impact of modern day pesticides on our food supply. Each TED TALK is under 15 minutes long. We will then discuss what we can do to mitigate the impacts we have on the Earth as we celebrate Arbor Day.
