Spinning Dragonflies and Flying Fish - Intro to Mechanisms

“Intro to Mechanisms” is a class aimed to introduce mechanical fabrication as a means of representing natural forms and organisms. Student members of RISD’s “Working Art: Mechanisms for Play” group will guide a class in building mechanical, functioning toys! Two main mechanisms will be introduced: a balancing mechanism for a dragonfly toy and a whirly-gig fish! The materials will be provided and primarily upcycled woods, wire, clay, and paper. Three available members of the group will be present to assist in the construction
